Warnick elected House Republican caucus chair

Warnick elected House Republican caucus chair

This morning House Republicans held an election for leadership after Rep. Richard DeBolt stepped down as leader for health reasons. The election of Rep. Dan Kristiansen to House Republican leader left a vacancy for the caucus chair position. Rep. Judy Warnick was elected caucus chair, who presides over daily caucus meetings when bills, amendments and voting are discussed.

“I am honored to be elected by my colleagues to this position. It will be my job to ensure our caucus meetings run in an orderly fashion, where members can share their ideas and openly discuss the ramifications of legislation,” said Warnick, R-Moses Lake. “It is a great privilege to be carrying on Washington’s tradition of women achieving top positions in our government by being chosen for the third-highest position in our caucus. I look forward to working closely with our new leader, Dan Kristiansen, and our deputy leader, Joel Kretz, to put forward solutions for our state and to negotiate with the other side of the aisle.”

Warnick currently serves as the ranking Republican on the House Capital Budget Committee and has been in ongoing negotiations with her Democrat counterpart and the Senate on a final proposal. She has previously served as the House Republican vice-chair, assisting the chair with his duties.

“My district will benefit from my new role because I will have a greater voice in the direction our caucus takes,” Warnick said. “I appreciate the people I represent and their conservative values, and I will always have their best interest in mind.”
