Horse Park Authority expanded under bill signed into law today
Today a bill supported by 13th District lawmakers to expand the membership of the Horse Park Authority near Cle Elum was signed into law. It was sponsored by Sen. Janéa Holmquist Newbry, and a companion House measure was sponsored by Reps. Judy Warnick and Matt Manweller.
Senate Bill 5212 will increase the members on the board from seven to 11 people. It passed both the House and Senate unanimously.
“This bill is about bringing in more tourism dollars to benefit the greater community that will lead to further private sector job creation,” said Holmquist Newbry, R-Moses Lake. “The park positioned itself as the place in our state for equestrian events, and this measure is meant to help the Horse Park operate more efficiently, while aiding their fundraising efforts.”
“As a member of the authority, I know firsthand how we needed more people to share the development of this important park,” said Warnick, R-Moses Lake. “The Horse Park has already proven to be valuable to our area and our state as riders discover the many opportunities for enjoying the sport and competing.”
“I’m looking forward to the expansion of the state Horse Park Board,” said Manweller, R-Ellensburg. “This will bring new supporters and a diverse set of ideas on how to improve this already excellent state asset.”
The bill will go in effect July 28. The 2013 legislative session is scheduled to end Sunday, April 28.
